Sale also looks at the global consequences of the discovery, revealing the colossal impact this brief moment in history had not only on a continent but also on the world. Christopher Columbus' arrival on a small Bahamian island in 1492 is often judged to be a defining moment in the history of mankind, changing forever the map of the world. Kirkpatrick Sale offers readers a unique take on Columbus and his legacy, separating the man from the legend. Now with a new introduction by Sale, this classic book is being re-issued for the 500th aniversary of Columbus' death in the heart of Castille.

Filling the Fact Gap JFB53 I like books that ask questions and challenge conventional dogma, even if I believe the author is wrong. Therefore, I like this book. It is easy to read and well organized. This is not the first person that questions Columbus version of the facts related to the discovery of America. This book shake things up and separates myth from fact. Still, there is a lot that remains hidden.I disagree with comments on author bias and lack of documentation. I believe this is a well-researched and argued book. Is the author judgmental? Sure he is. He obviously has a point of view that is different from conventional wisdom and. "mandatory for history class" according to April Edberg. This was a mandatory buy for history class but it is written well enough that I actually enjoyed reading this one.. "Columbus - The Hitler of his day" according to Cantbe Fooled. Little did I know - the exploits of this despicable person. History and current teaching has not done us well. You will never view Columbus in the same light again. Can't wait for the definitive book on Dick Cheney!
