Busyguy said GREAT Introduction to Museum Studies. This book is THE primer for someone who wants to start learning about museums and their operations. It gives the fundamentals without going into a lot of details. It is easy to read, almost conversational. Don't let that fool you, though. This is a serious introduction into planning and starting a small museum. I've used this book in the past for self-study, then teaching others at the Greater Cincinnati Police Histor. Starting Right, A Basic Guide to Museum Planning This is an excellent "how to do it" guide if you are considering establishing a museum in your community. It is easy to read, and gives very specific guidlines to determine if your museum plan is feasible from both financial and community support considerations. If so, there are specific steps (from writing a mission statement to establishing a collections policy) to follow for prudent setup and running of a successfu. Starting Right A.
