DESCRIPTION:
After graduating from Colby College, Gerry knocked around, taking stints as a roofer, a postman, and a manuscript reader in New York. His experiences as a reporter inspired his first novel, Deadline, published in 1993. Like many crime novelists, Gerry Boyle began his writing career in newspapers, an industry he calls the best training ground ever. However, his time in the city was cut short when Boyle realized that he preferred his adopted northern state to the bu
"Jack McMorrow gets into some vicious fights in Straw Man, Gerry Boyle s new mystery in his rugged series set in the wilds of Maine. Varney and Longfellow are richly developed, fearless yet sympathetic Straw Man is a great book to take on a plane, to the beach or to bed if you don t really want to sleep. With Straw Man, he sets high expectations from the start, and he doesn t disappoint. Very intense. Take the bone-crunching brawl that Jack and his military-trained friends, Clair and Louis, get into when they run across four big guys with chain saws poaching hardwood trees on an old woman s land. The repercussions of that little scuffle not only complicate the onetime newspaper reporter s freelance assignment on private gun sales in Maine, but also endanger his family. Prosperity, Maine is no longer the refuge from the real world that it once was, and Jack, and his wife, Roxanne, will be forced to face their most destructive enemies yet—each other. When worlds collide, few are spared the collateral damage—least of all crime reporter Jack McMorrow, who has learned the hard way that trouble often blooms in the cracks of human relationships. Best McMorrow Yet Amy Vandersall This is a very exciting novel that starts out with lots of action, and never lets up. Fans of the McMorrow series will really love this one, which brings back the same clever dialogue that Boyle has become known for, along with the descriptions of the many facets of Maine, which aren't visible from Rte 95, Sugarloaf or Camden. This book, though, seems to take it all a step further, struggling with the gray areas between right and wrong that we. Breathtaking ride E. Mailman Incredible suspense and a clever, likeable narrator who is rough around the edges in the best kind of way. This novel looks at very relevant themes: gun purchasing and its ethics and regulations, sexual abuse and cyber blackmail. There is much to digest here; it's a thinking person's mystery (as well as just an exciting, nailbiting ride!). Harold said Great Read. The best MacMorrow mystery yet. It's trite to say, but I could not put it down. Boyle is clearly one of the finest mystery writers around.
